Risky Fantasy Football Starters: Week 5, 2010

I don't know your opponent, league's rules, or team's roster, so I can't tell you precisely who to start and who to sit.  However, I can tell you who some of the riskiest major players are for week 5, which is a bye week.  Remember that if you suspect you'll have a hard time matching your opponent's firepower, you may have to swing for the fences and use a risky player.  Also, I know you may have no choice but to use one of the risky players listed below given the thinned pool of available players because of the bye.  Here are who I consider to be the riskiest major player starts for Week 5, 2010:

  • Andre Johnson, WR, HOU - Recovering from a high ankle sprain and listed as a game time decision.  AJ has stated he expects to play, but the game-time aspect makes this somewhat nerve wracking.
  • Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, NYG - Gimped up with a bad ankle and facing the 2nd best rush defense in the NFL -- the Texans.
  • LeSean McCoy, RB, PHI - Playing with a rib injury, though he did say he played with it most of Week 4.  Also, the offense will be led by Kevin Kolb, who didn't look too hot last week.
  • Saint Kickers - Likely to be John Carney again in Week 5 but there's a small chance Garrett Hartley could get the start.  Also, Carney is limited to FGs of 43 yards or less.
  • Darren McFadden, RB, OAK - Very unlikely to play. (Edit: now ruled out for Wk. 5)
  • Austin Collie, WR, IND - Very unlikely to play.
  • Cowboy RBs - We know that Marion Barber's productivity has been mediocre and that the Cowboys want Felix Jones more involved.  But we don't know how this rotation will shape up and don't forget that Tashard Choice is also in the picture.  If you can, wait a week to get a better idea of how the 'boys will use their backs.
  • Beanie Wells, RB, AZ - He seemingly has a good match up vs. the Saints' less than stellar run D but with an undrafted rookie QB, Max Hall, at the helm and a good chance that the Cards will be forced to pass pretty early on, Wells might become uninvolved quickly.
Already ruled out for this week
  • Pierre Thomas, RB, NO
  • Michael Vick, QB, PHI
  • Jay Cutler, QB, CHI
